NOVEMBER NEWSLETTER
I hope that you are enjoying your golf during this excellent Autumn weather, although it has turned a little chilly over the last few days.

COMPETITIONS AND EVENTS
Congratulations to Tim Parker and Mick Disney (Jnr) on winning the Children-In-Need competition with a great score of 47points. Many thanks to everyone who played. Over £400 was raised which will be donated to a local children's charity. The evening presentation was also very successful, but not very well supported. It was a catch up prize presentation evening but a number of prize winners did not turn up or send their apologies to the Captain.
The end of season Trophy and Medal presentation evening will take place on Saturday 9th December , let's see a great turn out for the evening , which also welcomes in your new Captain Sam Timson.

The Xmas Scramble Competition is on Friday 1st December and is filling up quickly, see Ryan to enter your team. Just £20 a player, which includes food and prizes.

The Hamper Scamper takes place on Saturday 9th December. This is a pairs competition with fantastic hampers as prizes, I know I have just ordered them!

GOVERNANCE REVIEW UPDATE
Our legal advisors are currently drafting the revised rules and Articles of Association which if accepted will incorporate the club into a limited company from March 2018. We currently operate as a members club but many sports clubs
are moving towards incorporation and an article I recently read sums up the reasons why, I thought it would help if I shared some of the content with you.
" The article rightly points out that, in the blame culture in which we all now live, the possibility of being sued personally for eye-watering amounts of damages is an ever present risk, with the members of the Committee particularly in the firing line. Committees will also be aware that running a golf club can be more of a financial struggle now than it was a few years ago. Membership numbers and subscriptions are under pressure as costs rise faster than income and more and more golfers rely on society and charity days for their golf. It is certainly possible to envisage a situation where a member's club that has been sliding into debt finds it impossible to carry on, and in those circumstances it is conceivable that the members as a group would have to put their hands into their own pockets to pay off any debts that the assets of the club were insufficient to cover.
Incorporation insulates the Club, Committee and Members from these kinds of exposure, and can definitely be a good thing for many clubs "
The Club will need 75% of the membership to vote in favour of the change for it to be implemented. All members and staff will be eligible to vote between the 1st and 31st January 2018 either by post or in person (or proxy) at an Extraordinary General meeting to be held on the 31st January 2018 at 7.30pm.
YOURE VOTE COUNTS SO PLEASE USE IT !

GOLF COURSE
A lot of winter work is now taking place including moving the enormous amount of leaves. Some tree felling work, agreed with the City Council, is underway to remove dead or deceased trees or to improve areas around the tees and greens. In some areas turf has been laid which is marked as GUR . Please avoid walking or driving buggies over these areas. The course, especially the greens, remains in great condition for this time of the year and this is because of all the great work done by Tim and his staff.

COURSE ETIQUETTE
Please remember:
AVOID SLOW PLAY AND KEEP UP WITH THE MATCH IN FRONT NOT JUST IN FRONT OF THE MATCH BEHIND
REPAIR YOUR PITCH MARKS ON THE GREENS
REPAIR AND REPLACE DIVOTS
FOOTPATHS AND RELIEF

Committee had a long discussion about this subject at the November meeting. It was agreed to introduce a local rule giving relief from all constructed and worn unmaintained paths where a drop may be taken without penalty with the agreement of your playing partner. A notice has been displayed in the club house

NEW MEMBERS
Welcome to all the new members that have joined us recently, I hope you enjoy your golf at Bulwell Forest for many years. If you are unsure about anything concerning the club, competitions etc please pop in and see the Secretary or Professional.
We are looking to encourage more women and young people to join the Club and would ask all Members to act as ambassadors to promote the Club and encourage people to join.

MEMBERSHIP FEES 2018-19
Membership fees are always a popular talking point. The Directors will be making a decision on the fees for 2018-19 by the end of January.

NEW CASH TILLS
The new tills will be installed in the Club House and Pros shop at the end of November. The new membership cards to be used in conjunction with the tills will be issued in January 2018.

Many thanks to Pat Rhodes for donating some electric hand driers to the Club, these have now been installed in the men's toilets.

Finally, on behalf of the Captain, Committee, Directors and Staff may we wish you a very Happy Christmas and New Year.
