What a fantastic summer we have had this year, compliments must go to our green staff for keeping the course in excellent condition

We have had a full season of competitions with some incredible scores being returned by all. We must congratulate all the prize winners with special mention going to our Captain elect Michael Disney for his course record and also to Lee Allsop for his hole in one on Silver Goblets Day.

Our knockout competitions are nearly complete and we hope that you are now preparing for Winter Golf.

Notices regarding pick and place will be put on the notice boards when this is to be introduced.

With regard to our course again we must compliment our Green Staff for keeping our ageing machinery up and running, thus saving us major expense. Their came a point during the year when our Green Staff were spending more time on repairs than maintaining the course. We had to replace our tractor in April and our fairway mower only last month. These items were both necessary as the old machines were beyond economical repair.

Our winter programme on the course is now well under way and as you have probably noticed a concentrated pruning of some trees is taking place. Our greens have been tined and dressed and our fairways will be slitted when the weather is suitable.

We have struggled with ground staff this year as one of the apprentices has been off sick since June and the other left our employment this week

Thanks go out to Glen Hart’s son who has helped us out on a casual basis during the last few months. Steps are being taken to replace our 2 apprentices and hopefully, if we can find the right candidates, they will be with us in the not too distant future.

During the winter period beginning in November we shall gradually be introducing a new Handicapping and Membership software by Intelligent Golf along with a new look Web site. Currently our staff is undergoing training on the various modules. Members will be informed of the changes and details of how to use the system as and when it becomes available. Please look at your emails regularly for updates.

Any member who has changed his email address or any other information needs to keep his/her details up to date in the Club Office to make this change a success. Many members email addresses are bouncing back to us for various reasons. If you have a valid email address and are not receiving messages from the club please contact the Club Secretary as soon as possible.

We still have several issues to discuss with Nottingham City Council who we met early in September to discuss proposals as suggested by Gaunt Golf Design. Their response appeared to be negative and alternative ideas were discussed. They were more favourable towards protecting the footpaths crossing the course for health and safety reasons, along with the provision for a Green Keepers storage building. We have been asked to submit a planning application with these projects in mind.

Your Committee is looking at ways of funding circa £50K to provide facilities for our Green Staff and be compliant with H&S legislation; if any member has any suggestions how to raise this money your Committee would welcome constructive ideas and solutions.

Other issues we have with the Council is the current fly tipping taking place surrounding the course and clubhouse. This is one reason that we have purchased entrance gates to protect our Car Park from this and other unsociable events that have taken place this year.

Our revenue from the bar and green fees is improving steadily and with this additional revenue we have been able to invest in some of the necessary replacements and repairs, so badly needed in the clubhouse and on the course. By the time you read this, work will have been carried out to bring our electrics up to a safe standard in the Clubhouse, a new more powerful kitchen Extractor Canopy fitted along with new tables and chairs.

Further expenditure has been allocated for refurbishment of the Gents locker room. The first phase will commence  in November consisting of a new carpet, new suspended ceiling with improved  lighting and  removal of the lockers in the centre of the room which will be replaced with hanging rails.

Notices will be put up as to when this work will be carried out, because certain lockers need emptying.  The locker-room will be closed during the work.

Phase 2 will commence after Christmas when work on the surrounding lockers will commence to complete the refurbishment. Any member who requires a refund on their locker rent may claim a pro rata sum on production of a receipt for payment from the secretary.

We have raised £1100 towards our defibrillator appeal fund, but we still need a further £500 to meet our target for this. Your Committee much appreciate the donations already received and thank those who have contributed most sincerely.

Forthcoming events in the Clubhouse are planned as follows:

 Committee Dinner Friday 21st November,

 Captains Changeover and Presentation of Medals and Trophies evening Saturday December 6th.

That evening will also see a “Catch-up presentation of prizes of all outstanding competitions
